Dr. Michael Murphy, DMD

Dr. Michael Murphy, DMDAfter graduating from Collinsville High School, Dr. Murphy attended Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville where he received his Bachelors degree in 1977. He attended dental school at Southern Illinois University at Alton, Illinois. In 1980 he received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree.

Dr. Murphy began practicing dentistry in Cahokia in 1980. Although a general dentist, Dr. Murphy has focused his practice on cosmetic and implant dentistry, and orthodontic treatment with braces and Invisalign. He particularly enjoys working with porcelain veneers and no-prep porcelain Vivaneers. "Patients love it when we can make a beautiful smile for them without having to trim off any of their natural teeth," Dr. Murphy states.

Dr. Murphy recently finished a 1 1/2 year orthodontic course to keep abreast of the newest techniques in braces. He was credited with 86 hours of continuing education from this course. Dr. Murphy has been offering orthodontic treatment for his patients since 1981 and enjoys attending continuing education courses to learn the latest in new dental techniques.

Dr. Murphy and his assistants also recently attended a rotary endodontic course to learn the newest techniques in root canal treatment to help patients keep their teeth. The rotary cleaning of canals, they learned, is quicker, more thorough, and quieter.

Another recently attended endodontics seminar focused on providing the most efficient root canal possible for patients; with the combination of high competence, quality, and speed, Dr. Murphy can provide patients with a friendlier, less-chair-time root canal.

In September of 2003, Dr. Murphy attended a rigorous two day seminar, gaining knowledge in the diagnosis, application, and implementation of Invisalign orthodontic treatment. Unlike conventional braces which require bothersome metal brackets and wires, Invisalign is a virtually invisible alternative to straightening teeth. In 2004, Dr. Murphy participated in the continuing education courses necessary to receive Invisalign II Certification.

In November 2008, Dr. Murphy attended a two day continuing education seminar focusing on the latest techniques and technology in implant dentistry.

Dr. Murphy is a member of the American Dental Association, the St. Clair County Dental Society, the Illinois Dental Association and the International Association for Orthodontics.

Married in 1975, Dr. Murphy has two sons.
