Waterclave Water Filtration
Your Safety,
Health, and Satisfaction Are Our Main Concerns!
In the past,
we have made every effort to utilize the most advanced sterilization
procedures in our practice. Keeping your safety and satisfaction in mind, we
have always stringently adhered to and exceeded the recommendations of the
American Dental Association. Highlights of our sterilization procedures
include:
We
wear gloves, masks, and safety glasses for every patient.
We
wash our hands with a germ-killing soap and changes gloves after each
patient.
We
autoclave (steam-pressure sterilize) all instruments and hand pieces
in-between patients. We check our sterilizers regularly with special
microbial tests.
After
each patient we discard all disposable items used during treatment and
then disinfect each room thoroughly.
We
use purified Waterclave water for all procedures. We exceed the American
Dental Association dental unit water line water quality guidelines.
Advancements
in Water Sterilization Can Provide Even Greater Levels of Security Against
Bacteria!
Recently,
the American Dental Association (ADA), the Organization for Safety and
Asepsis Procedure (OSAP), and the Centers for Disease Control administered
new guidelines for water filtration in America's dental offices, requiring
that previous methods utilized - such as dual filteration systems and a dual
pretreatment flushing method - be upgraded to standards obtainable using a
newly-developed system known as the Waterclave Filtration System.
While our
practice previously employed dual filteration systems and a dual
pretreatment flushing method to help minimize the bacteria count in our
water lines, we realized this was not enough. Therefore, in both our Cahokia
and Waterloo offices, we have purchased and installed the high tech
Waterclave water filtration system, at a cost of over $14,000. Our two
offices are the first of six in the United States to implement this
revolutionary new technology.
We want
you - our patients - to know the difference that Waterclave makes in the
sterilization of our practice's waterlines. Please take some time and
familiarize yourself with the benefits of this revolutionary new system.
Once you know the difference, you'll wonder how you ever lived without
Waterclave!
History of the Waterclave
A
well-respected Dentist and a Professional Engineer, who sought to find a
solution to the biofilm problem, created the Waterclave System. The unit has
several key features with combined elements that aid in producing bacteria
free water. Heat, pressure and the displacement of oxygen are incorporated
allowing the system’s effectiveness to be compared to that of an autoclave.
Although expectations were to use the Waterclave as the single answer to the
waterline problem, it was realized early on that the system must be
complemented by a chemical soaking solution to remove the biofilm before
benefits of Waterclave treated water could show 0 growth results on R2 agar
plating. Therefore, the system was designed to easily assist in the
application of solution intervention every 3 to 4 months.
American Dental
Association Requests for Water Sterilization
The American
Dental Association (ADA) has established a standard of less than 500
colony-forming units of bacteria per milliliter of water (CFU/ml) for the
unfiltered effluent water of dental units. A number of currently available
products attempt to meet this standard, for example, in-line filters, weekly
chemical regimens, and separate water systems. The common threads to their
shortcomings include technique error, lapses in compliance with demanding
maintenance protocols, equipment degradation from repeated chemical
exposure, and frequent replacement of costly waterline treatment devices.
Dental
units and their waterlines, by design, efficiently manage water through
their respective water ports, but these low-flow and narrow tubing diameter
characteristics create an ideal environment for bacteria to attach and
multiply, creating a biofilm that can contaminate dental unit water to
greater than 100,000 CFU/ml. Organisms isolated from dental unit water that
may pose specific risks to susceptible individuals include Pseudomonas,
legionella, and non-tuberculous Mycobacterium species.
The
Waterclave Water purifier was designed to be the gold standard response to
dental unit waterline contamination. It eliminates the need for retrofits,
independent reservoir systems, sterile or distilled water storage,
point-of-use filters, and frequent chemical treatment failures: human error
and handling.
The
Waterclave Water Purifier's closed system uses the same effective microbial
control methods as the autoclave, using deoxygenating steam under pressure
(270° F, 25psi) to rid dental treatment water of viable bacteria. The result
is safe, bacteria-free coolant water.
The
Waterclave Water Purifier out-performs its competitors by consistently
delivering "ZERO" CFU/ml for up to six months without chemical maintenance.
The Waterclave Water Purifier responds on demand, delivering bacteria-free
water to as many as 400 dental units and their respective water ports (handpeice,
air-water syringe, ultrasonic scaler, prophy unit and even the cuspidor).
With Waterclave Water Purifier, patient and staff exposure to waterline
bacteria is virtually eliminated.
The
Waterclave Water Purifier exceeds the ADA goal for dental unit water
quality. It helps protect from exposure to bacteria-laden aerosols and gives
patients clean, high quality dental treatment water.
